Talking Turkey

City-centric Turkish-food lovers (think Greek and other Mediterranean fare with a sophisticated twist) who never got to Authentic Turkish Cuisine, the lovely Turkish cafe in Voorhees, are in luck.

The family that ran the New Jersey spot has moved the operation into the handsome and expansive (UO seats) digs once occupied by Cecilia's on Vme Street, next door to the Painted Bride performing arts center.

Konak, Philadelphia's first and only Turkish restaurant and bar, is sticking with its traditional classics. Lunches tend toward Turkish kabob wraps and, for $9.50. three courses including soulful pureed-lentil soup or lemony salad; tender, gently seasoned lamb patties; and a homey (and less heavy than most Greek styles) moussaka.

Manager Ayse Atay. above, says the dinner menu will continue to feature red snapper with pomegranate sauce (pictured), pilafs, tomato-dill lamb shank, baby lamb chops, and vegetarian artichoke and eggplant dishes.

Belly dancers and Turkish music are promised for Thursday nights.
